Kara Jean - PORTLAND, OR
Occupation: A creative being!
Morning alarm: Between 8:00 and 9:00 AM
How would you describe your morning routine?
I love having a calm and quiet morning. I generally am the first to wake up at my house, and I cherish that time alone. I wake up and either work out, or start making myself breakfast and tea. Then I get dressed and do myself up for whatever the day will bring.
How long does it take you to get ready?
If I want to get ready quickly, I'm out the door in 20 minutes, but if I'm taking my time, it could be closer to 40.
What is the one thing in your morning you can't do without?
My tea. I have been drinking it in the morning since I was very young. The ritual of making and drinking it wakes me up on its own, caffeine or not.
What does getting ready look like for you?
A dance between the stairs to my bedroom, the kitchen, and whatever mirror in the house is getting the best morning sunlight.
Do you plan out your outfits the night before or are you more of a spontaneous morning dresser?
When I wake up, I lay in bed for a moment thinking about what I have to do that day and what I want to wear based on that. Generally, I like what I imagine, but if I don't feel confident and comfortable about something, I will go back and change after wearing it for a bit. I always love that line from Coco Chanel, "Once you've dressed, and before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off." Simplicity is key.
If you had 15 more minutes in the morning, what would you squeeze in?
Reading and writing! Something that will stimulate my brain in the morning; that I can reflect on throughout the day.
